Opioid Use Disorder Treatment in Orlando

Struggling With Opioid Dependence?

Opioid use disorder is treatable. FDA-approved medications, combined with psychiatric care and support, can help you achieve stability and recovery. Treatment starts with a confidential evaluation — not a prescription.

If this is a life-threatening emergency or overdose, please call 911 immediately. For the SAMHSA National Helpline, call 1-800-662-4357 (free, confidential, 24/7).

Opioid use disorder (OUD) is a chronic, treatable medical condition characterized by the problematic use of opioids — including prescription painkillers (oxycodone, hydrocodone), heroin, and fentanyl — that causes significant impairment. The FDA recognizes three medications as safe and effective treatments for OUD: buprenorphine, methadone, and naltrexone.

At Empathy Health Clinic, we provide office-based OUD treatment through a psychiatry-forward model. This means your care is delivered by board-certified psychiatrists who specialize in both addiction medicine and mental health — giving you access to integrated dual diagnosis care that most standalone OTP clinics and telehealth-only services cannot provide.

Our approach is evaluation-first: every treatment plan begins with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation that assesses your opioid use history, co-occurring mental health conditions, medical background, and level-of-care needs. We then build an individualized plan that may include medication-assisted treatment (MAT), psychiatric medication management, therapy coordination, and ongoing monitoring and safety checks.

Office-Based Treatment vs. Opioid Treatment Programs (OTPs)

Understanding the difference helps you choose the right level of care.

Office-Based Treatment (Our Model)

  • Buprenorphine (Suboxone) prescribed in-office
  • Integrated psychiatry for co-occurring conditions
  • Flexible appointment scheduling
  • Telehealth follow-up options
  • Monthly-fill prescriptions once stable

OTP / Methadone Clinic Model

  • Daily in-person visits for methadone dosing
  • Strict program schedules and protocols
  • Higher structure for patients who need it
  • May be appropriate for severe OUD or prior MAT failure
  • We refer to OTPs when clinically indicated

What OUD Treatment Includes

Comprehensive, individualized care from evaluation through ongoing recovery

1

Comprehensive OUD Evaluation

A thorough psychiatric assessment of your opioid use history, withdrawal risk, co-occurring mental health conditions, medical background, and previous treatment attempts. This determines the right level of care and treatment approach.

2

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

When clinically appropriate, we prescribe Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) to reduce cravings and prevent withdrawal. MAT is always part of a comprehensive plan — never medication alone.

3

Co-Occurring Condition Treatment

Many people with OUD also have anxiety, depression, PTSD, or other mental health conditions. Our psychiatrists treat both simultaneously because integrated care produces better outcomes than siloed treatment.

4

Monitoring & Safety Checks

Regular follow-up appointments to assess medication effectiveness, conduct safety assessments, manage side effects, and adjust treatment. Structured monitoring supports accountability and recovery.

5

Relapse Prevention Planning

Structured support for identifying triggers, building coping strategies, and planning for high-risk situations. Relapse is a clinical event to be managed, not a failure.

6

Level-of-Care Assessment & Referral

Not every patient is appropriate for office-based treatment. If you need medically supervised detoxification, inpatient rehabilitation, or OTP-level structure, we will help connect you with the right program.

Opioid Types We Treat

OUD can develop from any opioid — prescription or illicit. Our evaluation and treatment approach is the same regardless of the specific substance involved.

Prescription Opioid DependenceOxycodone (OxyContin, Percocet), hydrocodone (Vicodin, Norco), morphine, codeine, and other prescribed opioids
Heroin AddictionIllicit opioid use requiring medical treatment with evaluation and MAT
Fentanyl DependenceIllicit fentanyl — increasingly common and high-risk due to potency and unpredictable dosing
Mixed Opioid UsePatients using multiple opioid types or switching between prescription and illicit sources
Chronic Pain with OUDPatients whose chronic pain treatment led to opioid dependence — requires careful medication management

Your OUD Treatment Journey

Treatment is individualized, but here is what the process typically looks like.

1

Contact & Scheduling

Call 386-848-8751 or request an appointment online. We typically offer same-week availability. All communication is confidential.

2

Comprehensive Evaluation

A 45–60 minute psychiatric evaluation assessing your opioid use, mental health, medical history, and level-of-care needs. No treatment decisions are made until the evaluation is complete.

3

Treatment Plan Development

Your provider develops an individualized plan that may include MAT (Suboxone), psychiatric medication management, therapy coordination, and follow-up scheduling.

4

Ongoing Monitoring & Adjustment

Regular follow-up appointments to monitor progress, adjust medications, conduct safety checks, and refine your treatment plan. Frequency is highest early in treatment and reduces as you stabilize.

5

Long-Term Recovery Support

Continued medication management, relapse prevention planning, and care coordination for as long as clinically appropriate.
