What Is Telepsychiatry?

Virtual Psychiatric Care — Anywhere in Florida

See a board-certified psychiatrist from the privacy of your home, office, or anywhere you have a secure internet connection. Same-week availability for new patients statewide.

If this is a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline immediately.

Telepsychiatry is the delivery of psychiatric care through secure video — the same thorough evaluations, diagnoses, and medication management you'd receive in person, without the commute. Research consistently shows that telepsychiatry is equally effective as in-person psychiatric care for the vast majority of mental health conditions.

At Empathy Health Clinic, our board-certified psychiatrists are fully licensed to practice in Florida and provide telepsychiatry to patients anywhere in the state. Whether you're in Orlando, Tampa, Miami, Jacksonville, Fort Lauderdale, Tallahassee, or any community across Florida — you have access to the same quality psychiatric care.

Our psychiatrists can prescribe all appropriate medications via telepsychiatry, including controlled substances when clinically indicated. Prescriptions are sent electronically to your local pharmacy the same day as your appointment.

Telepsychiatry is not a watered-down version of psychiatric care — it is psychiatric care. The only difference is that your psychiatrist appears on a screen rather than across a desk. The evaluation is the same. The diagnosis is the same. The treatment plan is the same.

What Your Telepsychiatry Care Includes

The same comprehensive psychiatric care you'd receive in person — delivered via secure video

1

Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation

Your first telepsychiatry appointment is a full psychiatric evaluation — typically 45–60 minutes. Your psychiatrist reviews your history, symptoms, previous treatments, medications, and goals. This is the same evaluation you would receive in person. By the end of your first session, you'll have a working diagnosis and treatment plan.

2

Medication Management

If medication is part of your treatment plan, your psychiatrist prescribes electronically and sends it to your local pharmacy the same day. Follow-up appointments monitor effectiveness, adjust dosing, and manage any side effects. We can prescribe SSRIs, SNRIs, mood stabilizers, non-stimulant ADHD medications, and controlled substances when clinically appropriate.

3

Ongoing Follow-Up Care

Psychiatric treatment is not a single appointment. Follow-up sessions — typically 15–30 minutes — are scheduled at intervals your psychiatrist determines based on your needs. Early in treatment, follow-ups may be every 2–4 weeks. Once stable, monthly or quarterly. All via the same secure video platform.

4

Therapy Coordination

While we provide psychiatric (medication-focused) care, many conditions benefit from combined medication and therapy. We coordinate with your therapist — whether they're in your local community or also providing telehealth — to ensure your care team is aligned.

5

Crisis Support & Safety Planning

Our psychiatrists develop safety plans when appropriate and provide crisis resources. While telepsychiatry is not a substitute for emergency psychiatric services, your treatment relationship includes continuity of care and access to your provider between scheduled appointments when clinically warranted.

6

Records & Documentation

All telepsychiatry visits are documented in your medical record with the same detail as in-person visits. If you need records transferred to another provider, referral letters, or documentation for disability or accommodations, we handle that the same way as any in-person practice.

Insurance & Payment Options

We accept most major insurance plans and offer flexible payment options

Who Is Telepsychiatry Best For?

Rural Florida residents

Limited local mental health providers should not mean limited care. Telepsychiatry connects you to board-certified psychiatrists regardless of where you live.

Busy professionals

No commute, no waiting room, no time away from work. Appointments fit into your schedule — including early morning and lunch-hour slots.

Parents & caregivers

Attend your appointment during naptime, school hours, or after bedtime — without arranging childcare or leaving the house.

People with mobility issues

Physical disability, chronic pain, or limited transportation should not be barriers to psychiatric care.

People with social anxiety

If the idea of sitting in a waiting room increases your anxiety, telepsychiatry lets you attend from a space where you feel safe.

Follow-up patients

Already established with a psychiatrist? Medication check-ins are often more efficient via telepsychiatry — 15–20 minutes without the commute.

Insurance & Telepsychiatry Coverage in Florida

Florida law requires health insurers to cover telehealth services when the same service would be covered in person. This means your telepsychiatry appointment is typically covered at the same copay as an in-person visit.

We accept most major commercial insurance plans. Our team verifies your benefits before your first appointment so there are no surprises. Self-pay options are also available.

Note: We do not accept Medicaid or Sunshine Health. Coverage details vary by plan — we will confirm your specific benefits before your appointment. For insurance questions, call (386) 848-8751.
