    How Telepsychiatry Medication Management Works

    Virtual Medication Management Across Florida

Same-week virtual appointments available. Whether you're starting a new medication or need a follow-up, you can meet with a board-certified prescriber from anywhere in Florida during a Virtual Visit.

If you are in crisis or having thoughts of self-harm, please call 911 or the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline immediately.

Telepsychiatry medication management allows you to receive psychiatric evaluations, medication prescribing, and ongoing medication monitoring through Virtual Visit appointments — all from the comfort of your home. At Empathy Health Clinic, our telepsychiatry services cover the full spectrum of medication management, from initial evaluations to follow-up visits and treatment adjustments.

Virtual medication management is especially well-suited to follow-up appointments, where the goal is to assess how your medication is working, check for side effects, and make any necessary changes. These visits typically last 15–30 minutes and are clinically equivalent to in-person check-ins. Most major insurance plans cover telehealth medication management at the same rate as in-person visits.

Florida-licensed prescribers at Empathy Health Clinic can prescribe psychiatric medications via telehealth to patients located anywhere in the state. This includes SSRIs, SNRIs, mood stabilizers, non-stimulant ADHD medications, and other psychiatric medications. Prescriptions are sent electronically to your preferred pharmacy.

For patients who benefit from the convenience of telehealth but also want the option of in-person visits, we offer a hybrid model — some appointments virtual, some at our Winter Park office — based on your preference and clinical needs.

    Your Telepsychiatry Medication Management Workflow

From scheduling to ongoing monitoring — all from home

    1

Step 1: Schedule Your Virtual Appointment

Call (386) 848-8751 or request an appointment online. Our team will verify your insurance, confirm your Florida location, and explain how to connect for your Virtual Visit. New patient evaluations are typically 45–60 minutes.

    2

    Step 2: Complete Your Intake

Before your appointment, you'll complete a secure intake form covering your symptoms, medical history, current medications, and treatment goals. This allows your prescriber to prepare and use your appointment time efficiently.

    3

Step 3: Meet With Your Prescriber Virtually

Your board-certified prescriber conducts a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation (or follow-up) during a Virtual Visit. You'll discuss your symptoms, treatment options, and develop a plan together.

    4

    Step 4: E-Prescribing & Medication Start

If medication is appropriate, your prescriber sends the prescription electronically to your preferred pharmacy. You'll receive clear instructions on what to expect and when to report back.

    5

    Step 5: Follow-Up Monitoring

Regular follow-up visits (initially every 2–4 weeks, then quarterly once stable) track your medication response, side effects, and functional outcomes. Most follow-ups are 15–30 minutes during a Virtual Visit.

    6

Step 6: Ongoing Adjustments as Needed

Your prescriber is available between scheduled visits if you have questions or concerns. Treatment plans are adjusted based on your response — not on a rigid schedule.

    Telemedicine Compliance & Controlled Substances

Federal telemedicine prescribing flexibilities, originally established during the COVID-19 public health emergency, have been extended through December 31, 2026. These flexibilities allow qualified prescribers to prescribe controlled substances via telehealth under certain conditions.

At Empathy Health Clinic, all telehealth prescribing follows applicable federal (DEA) and Florida state regulations. Controlled substance prescribing via telehealth is based exclusively on clinical appropriateness, with proper documentation and ongoing monitoring. We do not prescribe controlled substances on request.

Telemedicine regulations can change. The information above reflects rules as of March 2026. Patients are encouraged to ask their prescriber about any updates that may affect their care.
